Impossible Marketing at IMDA SMEs Go Digital Day 2026

Team Impossible At SMEs Go Digital Day 2026

On 13 October 2026, Impossible Marketing joined SME owners and tech partners at the inaugural SMEs Go Digital Day 2026, organised by IMDA at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Billed as a day to bring SMEs and digital innovation together, the event featured over 250 digital solutions, real SME success stories and practical insights from industry leaders. Beyond the activities and photos, the conversations at the Team Impossible booth were the best part of the day, and one question came up again and again.

At our booth: AI SEO for the AI search era

Our booth introduced AI SEO for the AI search era, alongside our full digital marketing suite: SEO, SEM, social media advertising, social media management and content marketing.

The conversations centred on three goals SMEs care about most:

  1. Boost online visibility across search engines, AI search and social media.
  2. Improve discoverability through both AI and traditional search, and attract high-intent traffic through targeted campaigns.
  3. Measure marketing results using AI-powered insights, and improve campaign performance through continuous optimisation.

Throughout the day, our team walked business owners through how these services work together, and how the EDGE grant can help cover the cost.

The question everyone asked: “How do I appear #1 on ChatGPT?”

ChatGPT doesn’t have a fixed “page 1” like Google. Instead, it recommends and cites the businesses it sees as the most trusted and relevant answer. Google AI Overviews, Gemini and Claude work in a similar way.

How to become the answer

Here’s what we shared at the booth. To be the answer AI recommends, your business needs:

  • Clear, helpful content that directly answers customer questions
  • Consistent information about your business across the web
  • Credible mentions from reputable sources

A practical GEO checklist for SMEs

You don’t need a big budget to start. Here are six steps any SME can take this month:

  1. List the questions customers ask you. Check your WhatsApp enquiries, sales calls and reviews. Each common question is a chance to publish a clear answer.
  2. Answer them on your website. Add an FAQ page, or write short guides that answer one question each, in plain language, near the top of the page.
  3. Keep your business details consistent. Your name, address, phone number, opening hours and services should match across your website, Google Business Profile, social media and directories. Inconsistent details make AI less confident about recommending you.
  4. Claim and update your Google Business Profile. It feeds Google AI Overviews and supports local SEO, so customers nearby can find you.
  5. Earn credible mentions. Reviews, media features, industry associations and partner websites all signal that your business is trusted.
  6. Test it yourself. Ask ChatGPT, Gemini or Google the questions your customers would ask. Note who gets recommended, and what they do that you don’t.

GEO and AEO, explained simply

Generative Engine Optimisation (GEO) helps your brand get found, understood and recommended by AI engines. Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO) focuses on structuring your content so it directly answers the questions customers ask. Together with traditional SEO, they help SMEs stay visible wherever customers search.

Here’s how the three fit together:

SEO GEO AEO
Goal Rank on search results pages Be recommended and cited by AI engines Be the direct answer to a question
Where it shows up Google and Bing results ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews Featured snippets, AI answers, voice search
What it relies on Keywords, site health, backlinks Trust, consistent information, credible mentions Clear, well-structured answers
How you measure it Rankings, organic traffic Brand mentions and citations in AI answers Snippets and answers won

Making it affordable with the EDGE grant

As a pre-approved solution provider under IMDA’s SMEs Go Digital programme, we also shared some good news. Under the EDGE Digital Marketing Grant (formerly PSG), eligible businesses can get support for pre-approved digital marketing solutions, including AI SEO (GEO + AEO), SEO, SEM and social media marketing:

  • SMEs: up to 50% grant support
  • Non-SMEs, including large companies: up to 30% grant support

Businesses must be registered and operating in Singapore and have at least 30% local shareholding.

The tip we shared most often: submit your grant application before you sign a contract or make any payment. It’s one of the most common mistakes we see.

How to apply for the EDGE grant in four steps

  1. Choose a pre-approved solution. Pick a digital marketing package listed under the SMEs Go Digital programme.
  2. Get a quotation from the vendor. The vendor issues a quotation for the pre-approved package.
  3. Confirm the package with Corppass. Log in to the SMEs Go Digital platform to confirm the package details.
  4. Submit your application on the Business Grants Portal. Do this before signing a contract or making any payment.

Applications for pre-approved solutions are typically processed within about a week. Note that the grant covers the solution itself, not advertising spend.

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay to rank #1 on ChatGPT?

Not in its organic answers. ChatGPT recommends businesses it sees as trusted and relevant, which is earned through content, consistency and credibility. Paid placements, such as ChatGPT Ads, are a separate channel.

Do I still need SEO if I’m doing GEO?

Yes. Many AI tools draw on web search results and well-structured websites, so strong SEO makes it easier for AI to find and trust your business.

How long does GEO take to show results?

Like SEO, GEO builds over time. Clearer content and consistent business details can be put in place quickly, while credibility from reviews and mentions grows over months.

Is my business eligible for the EDGE grant?

Businesses registered and operating in Singapore, with at least 30% local shareholding, can apply. SMEs can get up to 50% support, and non-SMEs up to 30%.

What is the most common EDGE grant mistake?

Signing a contract or paying before submitting the application. Always apply first.
