12-Hour Food Drive: Joining Hands With The Food Bank Singapore
Posted on: August 29, 2024
As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project this year, Impossible Marketing proudly partnered with The Food Bank Singapore to participate in their inaugural 12-Hour Food Drive. As a digital marketing agency in Singapore that values community engagement, we were excited to contribute to this landmark event. The drive united efforts to address food insecurity – a critical issue that affects many households in Singapore.
The Food Bank Singapore, celebrating its 12th anniversary, organised this ambitious drive, inviting 12 companies across the island to host food collection activities at their premises. The goal was to raise both food and funds to support the organisation’s mission of combating food insecurity.
From 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, each participating company, including Impossible Marketing, gathered donations of non-perishable food items and monetary contributions. These were then delivered to The Food Bank Singapore at designated times throughout the day. The sense of camaraderie was palpable as everyone worked tirelessly to make the event a success.
At Impossible Marketing, we believe in giving back to the community that supports us. That’s why we were eager to contribute to this significant initiative. Our team organised a food and fund drive within our office, encouraging our staff to make donations.
The 12-hour food and fund drive extravaganza
The event wasn’t just about collecting food and money – it was about raising awareness of food insecurity in Singapore. As part of the event, The Food Bank Singapore invited representatives from each participating company, including Mikaela, Joanne, Lynn, and Nadiah from our team, to visit their warehouse. This tour provided an eye-opening glimpse into the operations of The Food Bank Singapore and the magnitude of food insecurity in our community.
During the tour, we learned some startling facts. Did you know that 1 in 10 Singaporean households experienced food insecurity at least once in the past year? Even more concerning, 2 in 5 of these households face food insecurity at least once a month. Food insecurity is not just about hunger – it’s about the uncertainty of not knowing whether there will be enough food on the table. It’s a situation where families may have to choose between paying bills and buying groceries, leading to compromised nutrition and well-being.
An eye-opening experience
Our visit to The Food Bank Singapore’s warehouse was both educational and inspiring. Subaa, our guide for the day, shared insights into the organisation’s operations and the challenges they face. We learned that food insecurity is not just about the availability of food but also its accessibility. For instance, a box of perfectly good crackers could end up being discarded simply because the brand logo was printed incorrectly. This kind of waste is not justifiable when so many people are in need.
The tour also highlighted the importance of the work The Food Bank Singapore does in redistributing food to those who need it most. The organisation collects surplus food from supermarkets, manufacturers, and distributors, which would otherwise go to waste, and redistributes it to over 300,000 food-insecure individuals across the country. It’s an enormous task, but one that The Food Bank Singapore handles with dedication and care.
We ended the tour with a lucky draw, where one spin was $10 and three spins were $20. We were lucky to get 10 spins, winning a variety of items like a t-shirt, face towel, mask, reusable bags, and more. Each of us – Lynn, Mikaela, Joanne, and Nadiah – had a few spins, and it was so much fun!
At the end of the tour, we received a certificate from The Food Bank Singapore, presented to us by Executive Director Arthur Chin.
The impact of our collective efforts
Thanks to the collective efforts of The Food Bank Singapore and the other participating companies, the food and funds collected during the drive will make a significant difference in the lives of those struggling with food insecurity in Singapore.
But the impact goes beyond just the donations. Events like these raise awareness and spark conversations about food insecurity, encouraging more people to get involved and make a difference. It’s a reminder that everyone can play a part in helping those in need, whether by donating food, contributing funds, or volunteering time.
How companies can get involved
Participating in the 12-Hour Food Drive was a rewarding experience for all of us at Impossible Marketing. It reinforced our belief that businesses have a responsibility to give back to the community. There is more to CSR than just about doing good. In fact, it’s about creating a positive impact that resonates throughout the community. We also previously had a volunteering event with Food From The Heart that we greatly enjoyed, showing that we can always have fun with colleagues while volunteering. Events like IM’s CSR volunteering event with Food From The Heart and The Food Bank Singapore’s drive truly highlight how meaningful it is to come together for a shared cause.
If you’re a company looking to make a difference, consider collaborating with The Food Bank Singapore. There are many ways to get involved, from participating in food and fund drives to volunteering your time or skills. The Food Bank Singapore offers a variety of time-based and skill-based volunteer roles, so there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re packing food, helping with logistics, or contributing your expertise in areas like marketing, your involvement can make a real difference.
Alternatively, you can make a financial contribution or donate food items. Every bit helps, and together, we can work towards a Singapore where no one goes hungry. By supporting The Food Bank Singapore, you’re not just making a donation – you’re joining a community of like-minded individuals and companies committed to fighting food insecurity!
