SEO Singapore
Posted on: September 27, 2013
SEO is also known as Search Engine Optimization, a search engine algorithm that determine the position of your website ranking on Google, Yahoo and Bing.
SEO without doubt is one of the most important marketing channels for all companies in Singapore and around the world. Research has shown that many customers search online for the products/services they are interested in before making the buying decision. If your business website is not found on the 1st page of Google, Yahoo or Bing search results, you are missing out a large pool of potential customers!
So the question is how to do SEO the right way? Let’s take Impossible Marketing website as an example.
If you Google about “Impossible Marketing”, naturally you will find our website (www.impossible.sg) ranked page 1 number 1 in Google.
But wait! That is not the point. Customers who Google about “Impossible Marketing” already know who we are. We want to reach out to those customers who do not know about us.
The main point about SEO is to reach out to potential customers who are searching for the products/services we are providing than searching for our company name (because for those who are searching for our company name already know who we are and what we do). We want to reach out to a new group of potential customers who are interested in our products/services but do not know about us. And that is the whole point about SEO: to create awareness and build new leads everyday.
Since Impossible Marketing is a Singapore based Internet Marketing company, we want to rank well for internet marketing related keywords. We did our keywords research via Google keyword planner (read more at http://adwords.blogspot.sg/2013/05/introducing-keyword-planner-combining.html) and noticed that there are many people searching for “Internet Marketing Singapore”, “Internet Marketing”, “Online Marketing Singapore”, “Online Marketing”. Therefore, those are the target keywords we need to rank well so we could reach out to this group of potential customers.
And Yes! We did it!
We are ranked page 1 on the following keywords:
- Internet Marketing Singapore
- Online Marketing Singapore
- Singapore Online Marketing
- Singapore Internet Marketing
- Online Marketing
- Internet Marketing
and also many other internet marketing related keywords.
After our website is ranked on page 1, we have new leads everyday.
Talk to us today and let us guide you to do SEO the right way. If we can do it for our own website, we can do it for yours too.

Your post reminds me of the importance of working on ranking high for keywords related to location as well as to a specific subject. I know that a lot of people looking for a business or service via internet search want to find someone local, even for an online-based transaction. I like how you managed to rank well for general keywords in your field as well as the location-related keyword, Singapore.

Hi Sam,
One of the key internet marketing ingredient is to get ranked on general keywords. This is because general keywords have a lot more searches than long-tail keywords. With your website having more exposure due to the ranking of general keywords, naturally this also bring in more leads to your business.

My friend and I have been working on improving the SEO for our blog about our experiences selling on eBay. Mostly, we’ve been making an effort to do more regular posts because we’ve heard that Google likes fresh content. I also keep an eye out for opportunities to leave comments on other blogs without spamming them. 🙂
I like to learn about the ways that professionals do SEO so that I can improve my own (humble!) efforts. So far I’m blogging for fun, but at the back of my mind, there’s an idea about monetizing my blog, and I could see how hiring SEO professionals could be very helpful if I finally actualize that idea!
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge.

Hi Hooray eBay,
Thank you for comment.
Please remember fresh and original contents are key to SEO. However, do not neglect back links. If you are doing regular update with fresh and original contents PLUS good quality back links linking to your website, your Google rank will be top in no time.

After reading the post and your comment above about long-tail keywords, I have a question. I have heard that it can be good to rank for long-tail keywords because there is less competition. But I see your point that there are more searches for general keywords. Do you have any advice when using keyword planner? How can I choose the best keywords to target for my site?
admin
September 28, 2013
Hi Julian,
Long-tail keywords are easier to rank as they have less competition. For a start I recommend long-tail. If you manage to rank well for a few long-tail keywords, then you target those keywords that are more general.
For Google keyword planner, u can sort by ideas which Google will show you relevant search keywords. From there, pick something that is close to your business with decent amount of searches. That will work.

Hey Jillian! I just use the Google Keyword Tool sometimes. What I do is I type in a word that has to do with my blog and then I take the ideas from there. Hope that helps! As for this post, impossible.sg, great job! I love coming here to get new information 🙂

Your strategies are awesome! I would love to know more about your strategies on how you made it to the top of page rank. There are website owners who just made their websites without thinking on how they can optimize it due to lack of knowledge about the importance of SEO for online business owners. Some just hired SEO experts but unfortunately, after paying a lot for SEO services, their site weren’t able to rank that high.

Yes! We often have clients coming to us after a poor experience with competitors who claim that results are guaranteed. There is no way anyone can guarantee any SEO results. The thing that surprise us most is when competitors advertise themselves as SEO expert. However, their own business website are not ranked in Google.

October 1, 2013
Hi Gina,
Long-tail keywords are just targeted keywords that are longer.
Example:
General keyword – “flower delivery” (this is usually the targeted keyword by florist).
Long-tail keyword – “budget delivery in Singapore” (this keyword is longer and has less competition as there is an additional word “budget” in it for you to do SEO).
Hope its useful!

My recent experience has been seeing a drop in rankings of my authoritative sites that I have knowledge in and value to offer. But for my little niche sites that I know nothing about I’m seeing consistant and even higehr rankings. Google is not doing well lately.
admin
September 29, 2013
Hi Demyan K,
This may be due to the latest Google Hummingbird update.
Wait for 1-2 weeks to monitor your ranking.
My guess is that your niche sites has more quality contents and links vs your authoritative sites.

Hi Samuel Lozano,
We receive similar questions on the drop of ranking recently.
We strongly believe its due to the latest Google Hummingbird update.

Please share us your secret. I assume you offer SEO services too and I hope I can get it in reasonable price. I wish that my site will reach first page too even if it’s not on the top of the first page.
I’d been paying an SEO company for 3 years now so that my website can reach more potential customers but it seems that my competitors are too far ahead of me in terms of sales and income. Large percentage of my income goes to site maintenance, seo and advertisements while my competitors don’t even have to advertise. I’m really disappointed with the ranking of my site and I’m looking for new SEO experts to help me out.

Hi, if I provide SEO work for my site on Google, will it still be the same for other search engines or do I have to have a different plan of attack for Bing and any others?
admin
October 8, 2013
Hi Sarah,
As more than 70% of interest users prefer Google as their search engine, we are very focus on Google SEO. However, we realise that we are also ranked well in Yahoo and Bing.
Honestly, what we did on Yahoo and Bing is just submit our website to them.
Thus, we believe that most the SEO signals of search engines are similar.

October 4, 2013
I think I understand what you are saying! You ranked higher with some very popular keywords because you made them long tail keywords by adding Singapore making the search more specific. That’s genius! I am going to apply that tactic to my next seo campaign right away. Thanks.
admin
October 8, 2013
Hi Danny,
This is part of the strategy for beginner which you can ranked easier for long-tail keywords as its not so competitive. To capture more traffic, you need to focus on general keywords.
For us, we are ranked page 1 for general keywords like “internet marketing” and “online marketing”.

This article you aptly named “SEO Singapore” no doubt contains information that can be applied all over the world wide web. After all, the internet and search engine optimization is not something that is just limited to a small landmass. It is not an American thing or something just for people living in foreign place (to me anyways, as I live in the USA) like Singapore. In a way, SEO allows cultural barriers to be broken down; and more or less allows good content to move to the surface. Of course, Google’s algorithms are always changing to take into account that some people will try to manipulate their system and get bad content to the top as a result of overloading their pages with keywords. But, proper keyword usage in good content is great to see. Awesome!

When you are getting deep into SEO, are you just considering how to get into Google’s search engine? Or are you also trying legitimately to break into the smaller percentages of searches that come from locations like Yahoo, Ask, and MSN. Almost everywhere I go online looking for search engine keyword content seems to emphasize the importance of getting high up on Google, but there definitely is value to focusing on these smaller search engines, right? It’s a more niche market to focus content towards, but I don’t see that as a bad thing.
admin
October 8, 2013
Hi Alan,
We mainly focus on Google search engine, but this doesn’t mean we are not ranked well in other search engines. If you do a keyword search for “internet marketing singapore” and “online marketing singapore”, we are ranked page 1.
The main reason for us to focus on Google is due to the huge market share.
Agree that we should do it for all search engines, but we should focus on 1 which we choose Google.
Jeff

This is a beautiful write up! It’s amazing how much a little SEO expertise can drive a web page or an entire site up in search engine rankings, and as a result bring in a huge amount of natural traffic to your site. I find it tough to find the right keywords, even with research done with tools like Google’s Keyword Planner (which you mention in this article). On that note, do you have any advice for picking out the right keywords? Even ones that seem like they would be great end up not working out all that well on my web pages. Any suggestions would be great!
admin
October 8, 2013
Hi Jeff,
For the “right” keywords, we recommend “action” keywords.
It really depends on what business you are in.
If you are a florist, the keyword “flower delivery” is much better than “flower types” as the word “delivery” show strong signal that the internet user already have a strong intention to buy.
You should always look for action keywords.

Search engine optimization is always so complicated in my head! This is a really great article for starting off to get adjusted to SEO, but I feel like there is so much more that can be said. On that note, are there any resources you could recommend to me like websites, books, etc. that would really help me learn about search engine keywords and application really fast? I don’t want to be spending the next 5 years trying to figure out how to get my pages ranked in search engines, but it’s how I feel at the moment. Maybe one day this will change. For now, I’ll just keep trying and take the little bit of advice in this article with me too.

Awesome advice.
Unfortunately, lack of proper knowhow, certainly make all efforts for website optimisation useless even after, paying a lot for SEO services, for the site that weren’t able to rank that high.
Your strategy will certainly help us to rank for keywords “personal loan” in Singapore for singaporebestpersonalloan.com

“Personal Loan” is a very competitive keyword.
We visited your website, you need to do up a lot more before you can rank well.
